Connect your camera

Fujifilm

X series and GFX: X-T5, X-S20, X100VI, X-H2, GFX100 II and older bodies back to the X-T2

The short version

  • Phone connections go through the camera's own hotspot. Fujifilm has no home-router mode for phones; ACCESS POINT SETTING is only for computer tethering and Frame.io.
  • Current bodies pair over Bluetooth first. The camera then raises Wi-Fi by itself when an app asks for live view.
  • Over USB, set CONNECTION MODE to USB TETHER SHOOTING AUTO. USB CARD READER only copies photos.

    Find the connection menu

    MENU/OKNETWORK/USB SETTING tab

On X-T5, X-H2, X-S20, X100VI, X-T50 and GFX100 II the items live in a tab of their own called NETWORK/USB SETTING, below the wrench.

On X-T3, X-T30, X-T4, X-S10, X-Pro3 and X100V it is SET UP › CONNECTION SETTING. Same items, older home.

    Pair over Bluetooth

    Bluetooth button (DISP/BACK)BluetoothPAIRING

Quick way: while shooting, press the Bluetooth button (it is the DISP/BACK button). Highlight Bluetooth, press MENU/OK, pick PAIRING.

Menu way: Bluetooth/SMARTPHONE SETTING › PAIRING REGISTRATION.

The camera shows a code. Start pairing on the phone, check the same code appears on both, and confirm. A white Bluetooth icon appears on the shooting screen when the phone is linked.

Fujifilm's own app is FUJIFILM XApp (it replaced Camera Remote in May 2023). XApp needs this pairing. Bodies that XApp does not support still use Camera Remote.

Let the camera raise its hotspot

Phone asks for live viewcamera switches to Wi-Fi

On Bluetooth-era bodies there is no Wi-Fi switch to flip. The manual says the camera 'automatically switches to a wireless LAN connection' when the app asks to transfer or shoot. The phone joins the camera's own network behind the scenes.

On older Wi-Fi-only bodies (X-T2, X-T20, X100F and earlier) press the Fn button set to WIRELESS COMMUNICATION, or pick it in the menu. The screen shows a network name like FUJIFILM-CAMERA-1234. Join it from the iPhone's Wi-Fi settings.

Fujifilm sets the frequency under WIRELESS COM. FREQUENCY SETTING (2.4 or 5 GHz). If an iPhone cannot see the camera, try the other band.

Or use a USB cable: pick the tether mode

    CONNECTION MODEUSB TETHER SHOOTING AUTO

Plug a USB-C cable from the camera into the iPhone. Then set CONNECTION MODE. The options:

USB CARD READER: the camera acts as a memory card. Photos only. This is what Fujifilm tells you to use for importing into the iPhone Photos app.
USB TETHER SHOOTING AUTO: the camera takes commands from whatever is on the cable. This is the one an app needs. The camera returns to normal when you unplug.
USB TETHER SHOOTING FIXED: same, but stays in tether mode after unplugging, and by default does not write to the card.
WIRELESS TETHER SHOOTING FIXED: computer tethering over a router.
USB RAW CONV./BACKUP RESTORE: only for X RAW STUDIO and X Acquire on a computer.
USB WEBCAM (newer bodies): webcam for video calls.

On the original X-T3 firmware this item was called PC CONNECTION MODE.

Stop the camera trying to charge from the phone

USB POWER SUPPLY/COMM SETTINGPOWER SUPPLY OFF/COMM ON

Current bodies draw power over USB by default. With an iPhone on the other end, Fujifilm says to set USB POWER SUPPLY/COMM SETTING to POWER SUPPLY OFF/COMM ON. Otherwise the phone battery drains into the camera, or the link fails.

AUTO POWER OFF still applies while tethered. Set it longer if the camera keeps dozing.
